This research field deals with the question of how intelligent data processing can create added value in conventional sensor technology.

To this end, known measurement techniques (eddy current, ultrasound, etc.) are used and their sensor data processed using machine learning methods in such a way that new characteristics or improved predictions can be extracted from the sensor technology. The sensor technology is thus further developed with software support in order to open up new fields of application and tasks.

In addition, the sensor design itself is also being optimized in order to create a sensor that is as simple as possible while retaining the same functionalities. For example, the tasks relating to improving resolution, predicting object shapes, contact regions and forces are being addressed.
